Nenad Medic has taken out the first event at the 2008 WSOP. Event #1 was a $10,000 buy-in Pot Limit Hold ‘em event and Nenad walks away with $794,112 in winnings.

Starting the final table in 2nd place, he defeated seasoned pro Andy Bloch heads up. The final hand saw Andy Bloch’s 9h9d against Nenad’s 5h7h, Andy pushed all-in after the flop which showed 8h5s4h, Jh hit the turn giving Nenad a flush Andy needed another heart for a higher flush but no luck with the 5c on the river.

Nenad Medic had previously won the 2006 WPT Championships at Foxwood and is sponsored by FullTilt Poker.

The first event at the 2008 WSOP is down to the final table and organizers couldn’t have asked for more, it’s choc full of well known names and some up and coming rookies.

Andy Bloch, one of the biggest names remaining also has the biggest stack of chips, but hot on his heels are Nenad Medic and Mike Sexton. Exciting rookie Mike Sowers who held the chip lead late on day two, is now positioned 4th. 2004 WPT winner, Phil Laak has also made the final table and currently sits in 7th.

Who’s going to win? The title is certainly up for grabs, Andy Bloch is in the prime seat, but there is plenty of takent ready to take him out. Here’s the chip count for the final table:
